School Outreach Programme 2015

The School Outreach Programme is a vital part of JRS Malta's awareness raising activities. It started through an EU-funded project, Saħħa fid-Diversità (2004-2005) which JRS Malta undertook in partnership with KNPD (Kummissjoni Nazzjonali Persuni b’Diżabilità). Following the success of this project JRS sought to sustain the School Outreach Programme. For the past 10 years, the programme has been offered to all state and non-state secondary schools and from the academic year of 2011 – 2012 to all primary schools in Malta and Gozo. The programme is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education.

In 2015 JRS Malta will once again be embarking on a school outeach project, titled Integration in Action, which been made possible through the support of the President’s Award for Creativity that was awarded to JRS Malta on 16th October 2014.

With the support of the Ministry for Education, Integration in Action, will take on a new format from previous projects in this area;  focusing on a considerably smaller number of schools and reaching out to a more modest number of students, this project aims to faciliate the integration of migrants and refugees by enhancing their capacity to act as agents of change and foster a culture of welcome and inclusion in Maltese society. Through the use of theatre and drama, the participants will raise awareness of their experiences, to help foster a deeper understanding of the causes of forced displacement, promoting greater respect for human dignity and appreciation of the diversity of people and cultures in Malta.

The project will run between January and May 2015.

Heads of School / Teachers interested in the project are kindly asked to contact Vyacheslav Okun sj via e-mail at slava@jrsmalta.org or telephone number 2144 2751.
