Migrants who lost their life at sea during the last few weeks were this afternoon remembered in an inter-religious commemorative ceremony, organised by the Emigrants' Commission and held by the sea shore in Valletta.

Prayers were read out by people representing various communities residing in Malta, including representatives from the Syrian, Somali, Sudanese, Eritrean and Ethiopian communities.

Archbishop Paul Cremona, the Imam, the head of the Coptic Orthodox community and JRS Malta director Dr. Katrine Camilleri read out a few words of support towards those who lost their loved ones.

The people present then threw flowers into the sea which, during the month of October claimed the lives of more than 350 migrants lost their life while trying to reach European shores.
