European Refugee Fund REACT (2013-2014)

Refugee Empowerment and Action for Community Transformation (REACT) is a project partly financed by the European Refugee Fund (ERF) falling under the 2012 annual programme.

REACT aims to facilitate the integration of beneficiaries of international protection and asylum seekers by: (1) Empowering them to be agents of change through capacity-building activities focusing on: language training (English and basic Maltese); Maltese History and Culture; Human Rights and the rights of beneficiaries of protection; Communication and Public Speaking Skills (2) Working with them to organise awareness raising activities targeting children in local primary and secondary schools, using drama, story-telling and culture-based activities to raise awareness of their experience, foster a deeper understanding of the causes of forced displacement, combat fear and stereotyping and promote greater respect for human dignity and appreciation of the diversity of people and cultures in Malta today.

As part of this ERF-funded project, JRS Malta also put up a theatre production called SOS: Stories of Somalia which was held from the 2nd till the 4th of April at Kirkop Primary School. Click here for more information on this production.
