Adult literacy toolkit's potential to serve overseas

The Paulo Freire Institute, our centre in Zejtun which offers literacy support to adults and children, recently played host to a guest from the Hungarian Province.

Ms Barbara Csapó came to Malta with the specific aim to enquire about the 'Ic-Cavetta' Project, the toolkit which PFI developed to help teach Maltese to illiterate adults.

The Provincial of Hungary saw our feature in last year’s international Jesuit Year Book and sent Ms Csapó to have first hand experience of the toolkit.  The Hungarian Jesuits are trying to help the Roma community in their country whose majority are illiterate.

Fr Vincent, director of PFI, organised a meeting with the authors of 'Ic-Cavetta' so that all the various aspects of the resource pack could be explained.

Ms Csapó also paid a visit to St Aloysius' College and learnt how the college is addressing the needs of those pupils with learning difficulties.

Fr Vincent would like to thank all those who helped make Ms Csapó visit a very worthwhile experience.
