Over 300 refugees rescued

347 men, women and children of different nationalities were brought ashore late last night after they were rescued by the Armed Forces of Malta.

The fishing boat they had crammed themselves onto to flee the conflict in Libya experienced engine trouble when the boat was sailing some 20 nautical miles from Malta.

This is the sixth such arrival since the beginning of the Libyan crisis. Over 1,400 refugees have reached Malta from 28 March 2011 to date after crossing the Mediterreanean by boat.
