Refugees Rescued in Rough Seas

Early this morning, 171 refugees were disembarked in Malta after being rescued by a Maltese patrol boat some 91 nautical miles away from Malta, close to the Italian island of Lampedusa.

Their sinking boat had departed from Libya and ran into difficulties in rough seas. The refugees were reported to be Eritreans as well as Libyans, and included 17 women and 3 children.
