Men and Women For Others

One of the prime aims of the education offered in a Jesuit College like ours is the formation in social awareness. We are all aware that it is so easy today for us all to be closed in upon ourselves and live in a world of our own, not knowing what is going on in the society around us and in the world at large. Sometimes we are so caught up with our very busy every day rhythms that we do not have time and energy to reach out. At the same time, we know that this is crucial for us as human beings and as Christians, otherwise we will end up living in a world of our own and even worse, not know what is going on around us.

Our College therefore does its utmost to help our students learn about different realities, both through their academic subjects as well as through all we offer as educational opportunities.

In the words of Fr. Pedro Arrupe SJ, who was the General of the Jesuit Order between 1965-1983, in the document Men and Women For Others:

"Today our prime educational objective must be to form men-and-women-for-others; men and women who will live not for themselves but for God and his Christ - for the God-man who lived and died for all the world; men and women who cannot even conceive of love of God which does not include love for the least of their neighbors; men and women completely convinced that love of God which does not issue in justice for others is a farce".

Together as educators and parents we can continue to help our youth be always more altruistic and to learn that our Faith urges us to reach out to the most needy.
